Renovation is like being 8 1/2 months pregnant

March 29, 2014

Eight months pregnant. The baby is lying on your bladder. Your once sexy walk has devolved into a John Wayne stagger. Enough already, you want to see your beautiful baby.

That’s what this renovation feels like.

We’re a couple of empty nesters building our dream master suite in a 1950s midcentury modern home on the Connecticut shoreline. The reno is designed by Duo Dickinson, Architect.

We demolished the wall between two rooms to make way for a bedroom, bathroom, a closet for each of us, a screened porch and a deck. The bathroom will have both a shower and a soaking tub. The bedroom will have a gas fireplace and a TV. Every wall and ceiling is open, sheet rock torn down and in the dumpster. The new plumbing and electrical and sound system are roughed in. I’m documenting the final exciting stages of this renovation, that began in November, 2013.
