About 80 pounds ago, our sons were taller than a yard, and had enough autonomy that I began to think about my body for the first time in about a dozen years. Being a male in his 40's, rather than think about getting in shape, I bought a canoe.
Humans tend to wreck what works in search of profit. In the early 17th century the Dutch found tulips to be desirable and bought every and any bulb they could find. The price went up to the point where Wikipedia notes "At the peak of tulip mania, in March 1637, some single tulip bulbs sold for more than 10 times the annual income of a skilled craftsman."

Nature is the metaphor humans use most to make sense of the infinite unknowables we whistle past every day. At the center of the solar system is the center of pretty much every natural metaphoric opportunity. The sun operates in a life cycle of billions of years that makes or days, years, millennia absurdly insignificant.
