Episode 50: We Celebrate at Lyric Hall
(In the words of co-host Bruce Barber as excerpted from the RLSG website)
I’ve been working on the concept for The Real Life Survival Guide – in one form or another – since the mid nineties. The idea was to create a radio show that was helpful and funny, and to use the Internet to extend the conversation. Having celebrated (and recorded) our 50th Episode, I do believe we’re getting somewhere!
We gathered – fifty strong – at Lyric Hall in the Westville section of New Haven to look back at what worked (and what didn’t) over the past 49 episodes, and to brainstorm ideas for where we go next.
The arrival out our guests flipped the switch on a tangible “good vibe” in the room. Was it the food from Manjares Fine Pastries and Tapas Bar and Delaney’s? The beer from New England Brewing Co.? The atmosphere at John Cavaliere’s elegantly appointed establishment? The Wine from New England Beverage Company? The desert from Rooby Dooby’s Cakes? Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes and yes.
But mostly, it was the people.
I was honored to spend the evening with such a talented group of people that have all so selflessly joined me in this adventure. It was a great chance to lift a glass, tell a story or two, and to thank the team that has brought the Guide to life; Cindy Papish Gerber, who books every guest and provides her invaluable perspectives on a daily basis, “Web Guy” Gary Choronzy who also brings so much to the table creatively, public media guru Kim Grehn, and Duo Dickinson, my old friend and phenomenally talented cohost.
I couldn’t have done it without you.
