In the name of the Bee –

And of the Butterfly –

And of the Breeze – Amen!

Emily Dickinson

We are at the end of the Triduum – the three days of Easter. “Three Times The Charm” is chanted after two failures. Plato (and the Baha’i faith) defined the mind/body/spirit essence of humanity. Triple plays, third downs, Musketeers, trifectas now The Tennessee Three.

We like three.

And in the Christian formation of making sense of our extreme ignorance when confronting God, like Plato, the triadic assembly of Father, Son and Holy Ghost was codified in texts, prayers, rituals and icons.

Why do we need patterns?

The Holy Trinity is not like gravity, or time – it is a description of how we understand what we cannot understand. The Son was one of us, that is tangible, and God is fully real in the extreme universal complexities that confound calculation of everything we see, and The Holy Ghost, or Spirit (to be nice about it) is what we feel.

Three realities make one construction, like the three-legged-stool we can sit upon.

The world is becoming monotheistic rather than follow the Holy Trinity. God and Son are become just a bit too preachy, too “religious” with all those trappings of Triduum, Good Friday, Eucharist, and on and on.

“I am spiritual, but not religious” is now the mantra. The undeniable reality of God in our lives cannot be calculated away, asserting the negative of atheism is getting harder when all the facts we are coming to know point to limitlessly more that we had no idea existed, let alone how they were created and choreographed.

So Emily Dickinson, again, gives us ourselves in words she thought no one else would see. The Holy Trinity of life, that we live in, with and wonder at. It is, almost, spring. It is almost Easter. We do not know much, but we are amidst miracles every moment.

“In the name of the Bee –

And of the Butterfly –

And of the Breeze – Amen!
